KLÁRA KOLOUCHOVÁ

Alpinist

PROGRAM: IT’S SOMETIMES WINDY AT THE TOP

Klára Kolouchová became the first Czech woman in history to climb the three highest mountains on Earth. After climbing Mount Everest (8.848 meters above sea level) in 2007, Klára reached the peeks of two eight-thousanders in 2019 – the sacred Kanchenjunga (8.586 m a. s. l.), followed shortly by the charming and merciless second highest mountain in the world K2 (8.611 m a. s. l.)!

Klára is a Prague citizen, but it cannot be said that she was baptized by the peaceful Vltava river. She was gifted with enthusiasm, curiosity, and desire to discover – to live. Her drive inspires people around her, and her optimism associated with the inclination to do something all the time is tireless. Klára has not only the desire for adventure, for something new all the time, but is also searching and finding the laws of our life, as well as its purpose. The ability to stop then restart something new without fail is all about mental well-being. When presented with anything new, Klára hears and sees challenge; that’s her weakness – or is it her strength?!…

She climbed her first eight-thousander Cho Oyu (8.201 m a. s. l.) in 2006 with Tashi Tenzing, the grandson of the famous Tenzing Norgay. Among her other reached peeks are the the highest mountains of the continents like Aconcagua (6.959 m a. s. l.), Mount McKinley (6.094 m a. s. l.) and Elbrus (5.642 m a. s. l.).
Klára is married, and has a daughter, Emma, and a son, Cyril.

Annotation: IT’S SOMETIMES WINDY AT THE TOP

Klára Kolouchová is a Renaissance woman: the first Czech woman to climb Mount Everest, she also has a number of interesting highlights in her career as a manager: she worked for the British Ministry for several years, and after returning to the Czech Republic she joined a consultancy firm.

Vaclav Marhoul is currently experiencing a career peak with his latest film, The Colored Bird, which is winning awards at film festivals. Mr. Marhoul had to fight for the film‘s creation and it paid off – a piece was created which can change how we view life, maybe not at first or second glance, but certainly for those who endure to the end.

Although the world of film and alpine tourism is very different, Klára and Vaclav agree in many ways. Successful poeple must have DETERMINATION (it took Václav Marhoul 15 years to reach the world film market, and Klára Kolouchová overcame the 8,000 K2 called Mount Killer for the Third Time). They work with EMOTIONS (the director tries to wake people up with his films, and the climber has to do her best during her ascents). They owe their success to the TEAM who believed in their vision and helped them fulfill it.

In the moderated discussion, we will ask Klára and Václav what it feels like to be on top and how to gather strength for the next challenge, whether a climb or a film. We will find out whether“journey is a destination” for them, or if it is the culmination of placing the Czech flag on the top of the 8,000-meter peak or a ten-minute applause after the world premiere of the film.
