Gabriela Slováková has been working in the Prison Service of the Czech Republic since 2003. Between 2010 and 2018, she managed the central women’s prison in Světlá nad Sázavou, where 900 women aged from 15 to 80 are imprisoned, in all security categories.

Since January 2019, she has been the director of the Kuřim Men’s Prison.

She also devotes herself to the issue of helping sentenced women to effectively reintegrate back into society, as an international expert on the matter. Representing the Czech Republic, she participated every year in the meetings of the Round Table of European Prison Services MECR, and she is commenting on current issues of the prison system in various domestic and international expert working groups. From 2010 to 2018, she served as a member of the Board of Directors at the ICPA – Worldwide Prison Association and Correctional Facility Systems, which brings together over 5,000 members from 80 countries. She is currently active in EuroPris, which is an association of European prison services within the Council of Europe. She is the initiator of the Yellow Ribbon Run project in the Czech Republic, which, with the motto “Run Away from Prejudices”, helps people with a criminal history start their new life.
